To end a call in Skype, provided your focus is in the call window, pressing Command Shift H will Hand it up. If that doesn't work, pressing command 1 will cycle through eventually to the main window, from which command shift H WILL work, as well as the add people or send message or file or whatever. Growl is configurable to speak incoming status changes or messages or alerts. You may have to adjust some of the Growl settings in System Prefs for both your computer in general and Skype; I don't use Growl much in Skype, though it's quite useful; for me, the alert sounds alone are sufficient.
