Hi Anouk, usually you have to start the terminal first and navigate to the installation folder of your application. If you have this installation path in your PATH environment you can start the application from every path location. For general usage of the terminal check out a tutorial for the bash. It is mostly the same on Linux and Unix. Here is a great one I sometimes use for scripting assistance: http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/.
