You might be right, I think at this time if it were me making this decision, 
I'd still get an MBP.  We're getting close to saying goodbye to optical drives, 
but not there yet.  In my case, I have too much purchased media I want in my 
computer to forgo an optical drive.  If the OP wanted the speed of an SSD, they 
could always buy a Macbook Pro with that option.
