Denise, Usually, the iTunes ripping CD process is very simple, you just put the CD in and iTunes does the rest automatically. I don't think that you've done anything wrong, it just wasn't recognizing your CD for some unknown reason. Could be a corrupt portion of the CD, interruption in your Internet connection.
