Hello Donna,

I'm not sure whether all scanners work with the Mac, but it's usually easy to 
get the information before purchasing.

As for OCR on the Mac, I'm currently just using VueScan. If you set it to 
multipage scanning, you can then set the number of seconds between scans so 
that you don't have to keep pressing Cmd-N to launch a scan.

The quality of the OCR is pretty good and it offers several languages. I can't 
remember which languages, but I'm sure the usual European languages are 
included.

It also handles columns correctly, so I can scan two pages of a book at a time 
and have them come out in the right order.
