Hi Wendy,
You can get all of the details fro Apple but here are a few key
differences that come to the top of my head.
MacBook pro comes in three sizes, 13, 15, and 17 inch screens. Contains
a built-in DVD drive, SD card reader, Can take up to 8 GB ram I believe,
Nice large hard drive, USB, Firewire, and I believe the new Thunderbolt
port, Nice range of processors, and I'm sure more features I can't
remember.
The MacBook Air comes in two sizes, 11 and 13 inch screens. Contains no
DVD drive although an external drive can be purchased if one wishes.
Contains two USB ports, either a 1.4 or 1.6 Intel duel core processor,
Can install up to four GB ram, Comes with either a 64 or 128 GB solid
state flash disk (nice and fast for bootup!) instead of a hard disk,
Does not contain a Firewire port, and I'm sure more features than I can
remember at the moment.
The question you should ask yourself is What do you want the system to
do for you? If you just want to do word processing, web browsing,
reading mail, looking at pictures, and the like I personally would like
to have a Macbook Air. If you want to do a lot of video and audio
editing such as multi-track audio go for the MacBook Pro.
I love my white MacBook that I purchased in February 2010. I'm sure I
will get many years to come out of the thing. If I was buying my Mac now
I would have chosen the MacBook Air because it is very lite and does not
contain a hard disk and DVD drive to add to the weight. When the Mac
Os10 Lion operating system is released we will have more cool VoiceOver
features to play with. I for one am very much looking forward to Single
Letter navigation in web pages. Good luck in purchasing your new Mac.
Feel free to send more questions to the list so we can help you further
with your new purchase.

Hello all,
I'm new to the list and am seriously considering taking the plunge
into the mac world. Can anyone on list give me some recommendations
on purchasing a mac? What are the differences in MacBook Pro and
MacBook Air?
Thanks,
Wendy
