This is true, but is a sort of kludgey workaround. If you type fast, it does pretty well. I think it would be nice to have both reading and writing contractions options toggle on and off. However, I think it's quite amazing that the Apple developers did what they did. I simply wouldn't expect that of mainstream companies like Apple.
