Dear John,
Yes, as a matter of fact, though I've not yet found a way to read protected 
epub on the Mac, i.e. from the ibooks store.  There is a program called iText 
Express, which among other uses is a great epub reader.  It can be found in the 
Mac App Store.  iBooks is my preferred epub reading solution on the iPhone, 
though I don't believe it is the only one.
