What you have to do, missy, is highlight the midi file in your finder, and copy it with command+C, then go into Garage Band, and make sure you're interacting with the project layout area. Then command V and paste it right on the layout area.

Like many of you, I ended up installing Lion yesterday. Everything went surprisingly smoothly, and on the whole, I don't regret the update at all. I switched mail to the classic view for now, and once things slow down a bit on this list, I will probably transfer my membership to my gmail address so that I can get a bit of practice using apple mail. Boot time seems a bit slower than it used to be, and I really wish there was a way to regain the space created by that recovery partician, but neither of those things are particularly bothering me at this point. I am, however, having 1 frustrating problem which is slightly bizarre, and is probably concerning me a lot more than it really should. I still enjoy listening to midi files quite often. I don't play a keyboard, but I used to have fun changing instruments in midis to make them sound better. I understand that that particular hobby isn't an option as there is probably no affordible software out there that will let me do what I want, but that's not important right now. When I first got my macbook in May, I learned that I could use quicklook and/or quicktime 7 to play midis. I was very, very impressed with the way midis played on the mac; they sounded better than they did on my PC. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case under Lion. I have no idea what changed, but midi volume is very quiet. It almost sounds as though the files are being played through non-existent rear speakers or something. It's hard to explain, but it's almost like the volume is being kept low by some kind of AGC leveling software. Every time a note tries to play normally, it quickly fades away. I think the only way to fully appreciate the problem is to hear it in person. I've checked volume everywhere, and it's all set to 100 percent so far as I can tell. This problem doesn't occur when playing mp3 files or anything else so far as I can tell, which makes it all the more baffling. I tried going into audio midi configuration in the utilities apps, but I only got confused, and VO crashed a couple of times. So, if anyone has any ideas what might be happening, I'd really appreciate some help with this. I'm not saying the problem is bad enough that I'd go back to snow leopard to fix it, but so far, it's the only disappointment that I've found with Lion.
