I assume you are talking about getting extended options in the bluetooth, airport and other status menu bar items?
I do this by the following process: 1. Hit vo-m twice to get to the status menu items. 2. Make sure quick nav is turned off. 3. Hold down the option key with your left hand and use left and right arrow keys until you get to the menu you want extended information on. 4. Release the option key and use the down arrow key. This provides signal strength information in the Airport menu, a selector for input and output sound in the sound volume menu, and bluetooth diagnostics and hardware addresses in the bluetooth menu.
