Hi listers,

While this may be not totally related to accessibility, it does effect
voiceover. And I thought it'd be a good thing to have for the archives.

If you are thinking about installing Windows Vista or Windows 7, be sure to
allocate half the drive to OSX and the other half to Windows. The mistake I
made was to give only 20GB to Vista. The result was 22 mb free and windows
going into an endless reboot cycle.

Here is where it may save some people trouble if you already have a 20gb
partition with windows vista or 7.

The easiest way to resolve this issue is by getting a utility called Win Clone.
Win clone images your windows partition, and allows you to delete the bootcamp
partition using bootcamp utility and then you are able to recreate the bootcamp
partition with bc util and split the drive in half.

Here is the problem.

Win clone will not work under Lion, only 10.5 and 10.6. The work around is to
edit /system/library/core-services/SystemVersion.plist and edit the lines with
"10.7" with "10.6.6"

By doing this, it renders all system applications unusable, even voiceover, if
it happens to crash or if you turn it off, and you will need a backup copy of
SystemVersion.plist. The reason you need a backup copy, is not only is it a
good idea to always have the original, but you will not be able to open text
edit. As soon as you replace SystemVersion.plist again over your modified one
everything will work again.

Even though modifying this file will allow Win Clone to run, it still will not
be fully functional.

So therefore I figured i'd let the list know of this issue and why you
shouldn't do it if you are a voiceover user.

I wanted to also add, that while it's said that Lion does not support
bootcamping with Vista, it does actually work. I made my partition and rebooted
and installed Windows as normal. When the bootcamp utility starts it will tell
you that you need to download Windows support drivers for your devices. What it
doesn't mention is that these drivers are only for Windows 7, so if you are
wanting to install Vista, you can bypass this step. Note: after Vista is
installed, you will need to have your Snow Leopard disk handy because you will
need to install the appropriate drivers from the SL DVD. So in short, Vista
works just fine, even from a clean bootcamp install with Lion, although it's
not officially supported...

HTH,
Cody
