Hi William,

Let me suggest that one way to cope with existing podcasts is to control
playback speed. On the iPhone and iOS devices you can reduce speed to half for
playback. On your Mac, you can use VLC or Quicktime Player to play back at
variable speed (faster or slower). If you want to use iTunes, you can make an
AppleScript that will playback your selected track at a speed of your choosing.

I did a quick Mail Archive search on "from:Esther playback speed" and found
several old posts. Here's a link to the first one:
• Re: Audio playback with speed control
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg01038.html
describes speed control capability in VLC and QuickTime
• Re: speeding up media
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg34403.html
(note that the instructions to use the QuickTime player controls now require
using Command-Shift-R and NOT Command-R to show the file in Finder under the
most recent iTunes)

This post includes sample AppleScripts for changing the playback speed and then
changing back to normal speed while keeping the bookmark position -- although
the example uses a speed up (e.g. 1.5 times or 1.33 times) you can make this a
slower time (e.g. 0.7 times).

HTH. Thank goodness I didn't have to use the Google Groups archive searching
to find these posts. The macvisionaries Mail Archive page is:

Just type your searches in the text box. For tips on search syntax check the
FAQ:

Cheers,

Esther
