Hi Courtney, you don't need the upgrade for deleting audio.
Set the insertion point on the left position where you want to start to delete and press m. Set the insertion point then to the right end of the part you want to delete and press CMD + arrow left. Then press CMD + backspace. Should be done. But be sure you are working with the insertion point and not with the playhead.
