Yes, time machine will work, but I'm not certain on whether or not the migration assistant update is included or not in 10.5.8 or not. If you've done all software updates then I see no problem in why it wouldn't work. Actually come to think of it, I don't think the migration assistant update would be for leopard, but rather I think the update is to Lion for leopard, so make sure you do all updates
