Hi Gigi.

The Pearl Camera unfortunately does not work with any other programs or
operating systems besides Openbook in Windows.

Say guys.

First, I got the voices to work. Thanks Anne.

Second, does anybody know if the Purl Camera will work with the Mac without
installing Windows and OpenBook? Does anybody know if another software
scanning program will work with the Purl Camera on the Mac?

Regards,

Gigi

Hi Johny Angel,

No I don't know if your scanner is supported, but if you google for the fine
reader express website, made by abbyy, pronounced abbey, you will likely
find it. Do you already have drivers for your scanner so that it works in
os10?

Hi Paul,

Okay great! I own an Epson 1660 photo scanner that works wonderfully with
OpenBook on a Windows machine. Do you know of a list of scanners supported
by Fine Reader?

Hi Johnny Angel,

The mac can create images from a scanner and from its internal camera. I
suppose you could attach an external camera as well. But if you want OCR,
then the quickest way I have found so far, is to use fine reader express. It
is in the mac app store and it costs 80 euros, I think some 95 or 100
dollars. Its interface is easy to use, and for a single page or for a few
pages, I have found it to be a good solution. I haven't tried scanning
entire books with it yet. So yes, the mac can take images from a camera or a
scanner, but for OCR you need a separate piece of software.

Hth,

Paul.

Hi all,

I understand that the MBP offers image capturing? Will this feature work as
a usable ocr? If so, willVo read text captured there?

Just curious. If this would work, I'm also wondering if an external camera
can be used with this feature.
