Didn't notice any followups to this so I thought I'd try to answer one or two.

2 - If you just ordered your machine it should ship with Lion which is OSX 10.7. On OSX there is a persistent menu bar across the top of the screen which is reached via VO-M. The first menu item is always the Apple menu and under there is always Software Update. That should default to running every so often all by itself. Software update will scan all the Apple related stuff installed on your machine, notify you of updates and download/install them. No need to go and manually download/install anything.

3 - Depends on your definition of "similar specs". Generally Apple only sells high-end hardware so if you were to run windows on it via bootcamp you'll probably find it to be quite fast compared to other windows laptops. Some reviews in the past have claimed that Apple's laptops are actually the fastest hardware for running Windows.

5 - What do you mean by using your iPhone as a modem? If you mean tethering, I thought that was turned off for AT&T, but maybe it's on for other carriers or in other countries. If it is turned on then I think your phone just becomes a wifi hotspot which would allow any wifi device with the right credentials to use your phone's internet connection.

Hi Guys,
I've ordered a MacBook Pro and it should be here on Monday or Tuesday. This is my very first time owning an Apple computer of any kind, so I have virtually no experience with using one. Plenty of Googling, as well as various podcasts from Blind Cool Tech, Blind Geek Zone and Vision Australia, are the extent of my knowledge. I have a few things I'd like cleared up, if possible: 1. What happens when you connect a Microsoft keyboard to a Mac? I know things like the "Command" and "Option" keys are swapped, that "Clear" is located above "num pad 7" on an Apple keyboard, and that "Fn" is directly above "Delete", also on an Apple keyboard. But what happens when a PC keyboard is connected and you press keys like "num lock", "scroll lock" or "Insert"? Do they perform the functions that the keys in the same locations on an Apple keyboard would? 2. As far as I know, my machine will be running Snow Leopard. I'm not sure how up-to-date it'll be, so I downloaded the 10.6.8 update combo from Apple's site. Will it just install the updates to the software that are newer than what's on the machine, or will it want to start all the way from 10.6.0? 3. I've heard that, when running Windows natively on Apple hardware, it's much faster than running it on a PC with similar specs. Is this at all true? 4. On a related note, do the Windows drivers for the Mac hardware come preinstalled somewhere on "Macintosh HD", or are they on the Snow Leopard installation DVD? Also, does exploring the DVD in Windows display different contents to what is shown in Snow Leopard? I've heard people on podcasts say that, in Windows, they had to right-click the CD drive and select "Show Windows Files", or something to that effect. 5. Will I be able to use my iPhone as a modem in Snow Leopard? I can do it in Windows and it works beautifully, but only after I've installed iTunes. Will it "just work" in Snow Leopard, or does it need some configuring? If it needs configuring, where do I go and what do I do to get it to work? I know that's a lot to take in all at once, but I'd like to be as prepared as I possibly can. Thanks very much in advance for any feedback.
Regards,
Gavin
