Hello Denise, I always get rid of the preview pane by placing the VO cursor on the horizontal splitter, bringing the mouse to it, and double clicking with the trackpad. This allows me to choose which messages I want to open, and to skip those I don't. I read a message by pressing Return, and VO reads the message automatically.
I don't use Conversation view.
