Hi.
Once you boot from the recovery partition, you'll need to go in to disc utility 
from the table that will come up and erase you're hard drive first and then 
you'll be able to do a clean install.
The reason I made a flash drive is because I didn't want to wait all day for my 
crappy internet connection to download the 4 GB of installation material that 
Lion needs to set up.
