Joseph, Permissions are repaired automatically without you having to do anything at all. While permissions are being repaired, if you vo+arrow round the area, you will result table. When you interact with it, you can see what is being repaired - not that I understand it.
It is good practice to repair permissions every so often, especially after installing or removing applications or software update.
