Hi there. I not too long ago completed the NLS course on Nemeth Code using a PacMate to create brf files.
First, do you have a braille display? You have less of a problem, I think, if the goal is to teach Nemeth Code and not just to get yourself certified to be a transcriber or a proofreader. Certain parts of Nemeth Code may have to be done on a brailler because when you get into spatial arrangement of problems, then a brailler is easier. You may not have to do that in a Hadley course; I had to for NLS. So, once I got to where I had to do spatial arrangement, I switched to a Perkins. I tried doing it with brf files, but I found getting the problems to line up was a real pain without the brailler. However, having said that, you might be able to do it quite successfully if you turn off Auto complete so that your computer won't bother you. Then you can turn on computer braille by setting your Mac on uncontracted braille and turning on dots seven and eight so that you get computer braille. I haven't tried to set the Mac to produce a file with a brf extension so that other systems will be lied to and think they have a perfectly good braille file. I've done that with Word Pad, I believe. when I had to do it, I had to count the lines per page and put in carriage returns where needed so that my lines did not exceed 40 characters per line. If necessary, page breaks could also be put in where needed, too. I had to count lines because my PacMate did not automatically make a new line every 40 characters.
