Hi David. I'm assuming you are viewing messages in the messages table. I usually just press enter when I get to the message I want and Voiceover reads the full message to me. Of course there's also interacting with the message content table, then pressing down arrow once, and Voiceover should read the message. If there is more than one message in a thread, its much the same way. The latest message will come first then you down arrow through each previous message in the thread.
