Well, that's the reverse of what I was asking for, but it will work perfectly. I was wanting Pages to disregard the state of open files while Safari would retain what was open. I guess the thing to do is to retain the global setting to on and use the command option q for Pages to hose open files. I'll try it. thanks, K.
