Hi Shannon, You originally posted: "Someone wrote an email with step by step instructions on how to select text and have it go to a text edit window. I can't find this email, but would like very much to have it. If possible, could someone forward it to me? I would appreciate it greatly."
Since you're subscribed to the Mac-access list, you may have been thinking about the recent discussions there about enabling the Service menu shortcut for "New TextEdit Window Containing Selection" and optionally assigning a keyboard shortcut to this. This will work for text that you select in any application, and will also work in Safari if you select text as described in any of the methods used below. It will also work if you just select all in Safari with Command-A, and then apply the keyboard shortcut to send your selection to TextEdit. I have a shortcut assignment set up for Command-Option-Shift-W to do this. I'll give the link to the archived Mac-access list post with my instructions on how to set this up: • Re: copying large chunk of text from safari. http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/msg06564.html This shortcut also lets you access to other accessibilty features that copying and pasting into TextEdit does not, because the Services menu action removes some non-text code, as well as working with a lower load on the system. For example, if you select a document page with an embedded table in Pages or Nisus Writer Pro, and send it to TextEdit with this shortcut, VoiceOver will automatically read the table. HTH.
