Answer this, can I put a commercial DVD that I buy from the store, and copy the contents to a file on my mac? If it can do that, then it might be worth it.

To be honest, it has a lot of features to it, but I have only used it mainly to copy DVDs with it. It is completely accessible and gets the job done in conjunction with Fairmount. If you are looking simply to copy DVDs, it's probably not worth $50 for that alone, though. There are a few video programs out there and you might be best trying them out and seeing which one gets the job done for you in the best manner. I know that sounds like pretty dull advice, but that's pretty much the best that I can think of at the moment.
