Hi Christine, I believe that folders placed in the dock are by default set to be displayed as "stacks" and have their contents viewed as "automatic"-- which usually ends up as "fan". VoiceOver won't announce folder content entries in these modes. You need to use your context menu (VO-Shift-M) to set your folder to display as "folder" and view contents as "list". Once you do that, pressing space bar or return when focused on the folder in your dock will give you access to the contents through VoiceOver.
