Everything you need to share your Mac hard drive to your windows box is already included in OSX. Just need to go into preferences, turn on File Sharing in the Sharing preferences then go to Options and turn on SMB (Windows) sharing. Further down there is also a list of users that you want to have SMB sharing access so you'll need to turn those on as well. So I log into my Mac as cblouch so on the windows side I map a network drive to \\ip_address_of_my_mac\cblouch and choose Connect using different credential and use my Mac username (cblouch) and password. That should be all there is to it. You'll get another drive on your Windows box which is actually the Mac's hard drive with all the usual folders.

I have both a Mac Mini and a separate Windows machine. I would like to be able
to create a shared drive so that I do not need to send files back and forth
with email or transfer with a thumb drive. For example, I might start working
on a document on one machine and continue working on it with a different
machine. I guess I want Dropbox functionality without dealing with Dropbox! I
have no interest in running Windows on my Mac. Can somebody point out any web
references that would explain how to do this? I am okay with purchasing new
hardware if it is required.
Thanks
