According to what I read in a book about switching to a Mac from Windows you will not find this customisation option available on the Mac. Personally I am happy if this provides a stable machine. I think this is one of the trade offs fsfor the increased stability of the Mac.. There is not the same level of system configuration. Lots of things you can do in Terminal and automator but I have yet to learn these.
