Hi there and glad to hear you're making the move to the mac. you won't regret it.
I have used the elgato tv tuners and the software isn't exactly bad but has some accessibility issues. bearing in mind this was some time ago so things may have changed since. the included software allows you to record the programs you want to directly to the HDD without any issues, you can schedule recordings and so much more besides. an amazing bit of kit. they're reasonably priced so I'd give it a go in all fairness.
