Hi I've never seen an AVI with a modern proprietary codec. DivX sure, but DivX can be played by just about anything these days. If you want to be able to play just about any unencrypted audio or video format out there, grab vlc from http://www.videolan.org/vlc It's always been accessible on the Mac and the new interface with version 2.0 is even more so. hth
