Hi, the accessibility team says it's a bug between VoiceOver and iOS that it doesn't work reliably using a swipe to the right as you described. They try to fix it.
I found two ways to do it anyway: 1. Switch off VoiceOver and put your finger on the right place for ruffly one second. Then move the finger to the right. Then you can switch on VoiceOver again and click on the confirm delete button. 2. You are presumably a user of iTunes Match. Switch off iTunes Match on your iPhone and delete content manually via iTunes. Afterwards you can switch iTunes Match on again.
