Hi Rick, If I restart my wifi network then as a rule I can see at least two of my Idevices in the source list of Itunes.
Otherwise to transfer podcasts or music I have to hard wire the Idevice to my Macbook Pro. This has only just started to happen since upgrading to the latest v of Itunes.
