Sounds like you still have high contrast mode or inverse colors turned on when playing video. Unlike Windows, Mac HC mode is implemented on the video card so everything gets treated the same way, including whatever video you are playing. Take a poke at the Universal Access section of Preferences and check it anything is turned on in the Display section of the Seeing tab.
