Hi Just a quick note on Olearia. We developed this application a few years back when there wasnt much available for OSX. Due to our other research commitments (we are a research group not a company) we have not really done anything more with it, however we hope one day to revive it. Olearia is open source so if there is anyone interested they can take it on and bring it up to date. Regards On 12/05/2012, at 12:15 AM, Steve Holmes wrote:
I always thought .app files were programs. No, I didn't look inside it though I have seen the view package contents option before; I wasn't sure when that would be useful. I'm still new to this mac stuff and packages and apps are definitely uncharted teritory for me right now. I was getting used to the idea that apps from places other than the App Store would come in the form of .dmg files and within that structure, you wold see .app and other files maybe. I guess there must be several ways to package an application for the Mac. Sometimes there is documentation inside an app. Try interacting with it in Finder, pressing VO-shift-m for the contextual menu, and choosing "show package contents. I don't have this app, so I'm not entirely sure if it has documentation, but it's one more thing to try. The link to the user manual on the site is broken and the zip file only has an .app file. So how is one supposed to be able to use this thing? I'm not one who likes to install an app and have no clue where to go from there. That's like flying blind so to speak.
