I often find the "goto linked item" VoiceOver command that is bound to VO-J and that I also bind to numpad commander-3 acts very close to F6 in several applications.
In iTunes while in the Library Table VO-J will toggle between interacting with the Sources and Interacting with the Library table. In Mail it toggles between the 2 or three panels open i.e. Mailboxes, Message Table, Message Content. Best wishes, Jonathan Jonathan C.
