Hi, The complaints stem from the components overheating within the enclosure. I did have an issue with the TC crashing but I did not lose any backup data as it was the logic board within the unit that crashed not the HD. We have a few newer TCs in our organization and have not encountered the same problem. One alternative to the TC itself is to use an Airport Extreme and connect a good sized USB HD to the USB port on the Extreme. This works fine for me and allowed me to have quite a sizable HD connected for backups.
