oh, there's your issue.

It's not gonna work with a cheap non apple u s b keyboard, unless you go into system prefs, keyboard, then to to the shortcuts tab, and remap it to something.

It's actually the fn key.

Now, what you could! do, is in keyboard, can't recall what tab it's on, I wanna say general, but don't quote me, it's been ages since I set mine up, sorry, you could tell it to not use function keys as standard function keys, and uncheck that box. Then you could hit F10 by itself to mute, F11 for volume down, and F12 for volume up. The only problem with this is, you don't have an fn key, as you don't have a bluetooth keyboard, nor do you have a full sized apple keyboard, nor a internal macbook keyboard that has an fn key, so then you're stuck where you couldn't use regular software sided commands with your F keys, so, really it's kind a catch 22. Frankly, if you can hash it, you really oughtta look at getting the flat white eluminum bluetooth, or better yet full sized Apple USB keyboard. They're simply amazing! Yeah, they are? a little pricy, like, $49 for the USB, and I wanna say $69 for the bluetooth, maybe I have that backwards don't remember, but I'm telling you what! It is so! worth it!

Even if I didn't use ProTools, where I needed a full sized keyboard with a num pad to do editting, I still! would use a full sized native keyboard. It is just so! worth it!

Chris.

Subject: f11 and f12 as volume keys on Mac Mini?

Hi all,
On macbooks, f11 and f12 control the volume. However, on my mini, I can't get that to happen. I looked in keyboard preferences, but could not find anything about volume to which I could assign those two keys. Is there any way of doing this? I'd also like to get the finer control of using cmd (or maybe its option) with those keys, but that's secondary. I should also say that I am using a $10 USB keyboard, not an Apple keyboard. Thanks.

Have a great day,
Alex (msg sent from BrailleNote
