You should be able to go to where you set up the system voice. In lion or earlier, it's under system preferences and then speech, and in Mountain lion, it's system preferences and then dictation and speech. Anyway, you can ajust the rate there. I bumped mine up to about 70 percent, and it's pretty good most of the time. Good luck, and if you need more detailed instructions, let me know and I'll try to get more specific. _____
