Hi, the person doesn't need to be in your contacts. You would need to type there phone number or, e-mail address they use for iMessages in the to field. If this person is in your contacts, and have multiple entries, after typing in their name, press the down arrow to choose the entry you want to use for that person and press VO spacebar. BTW, there is no send button. When done typing your message, just hit enter. I'm assuming we're talking about messages on the Mac right?
