Steve, when I unchecked documents under my icloud preferences, that weird wizard did indeed go away. This also changed the default save to documents folder, rather than icloud. Now, here's the thing I wish would come back. When the save dialog appeared, you used to be able to just hit command-d for don't save. That seems to have gone away. Bummer! I did send a note to feedback asking for this one back. Even my sighted hubby misses this shortcut.
Thanks.

I'm not aware of any such wizard happening every time I open Text edit but then
again, I've left it running for some time so I have been just command-tabbing
into it. I haven't used the editor a lot lately so Haven't determined if there
is a way to change the default save directory.

This is one of two things that drive me crazy using Text Edit in Mountain Lion.
Frankly, I'm going to look at a different text editor. I don't have any
intention of saving my documents in icloud and since I can't change that
default, it's now a royal pain in the you know what.
I also don't like this new wizard or whatever it's called that appears when you
open text edit. I tended to use this program for things like grocery lists and
such and I just hate all the extra fussing around.

Hi Jeff,
If you want to save files into a different place other than icloud V O
space bar when it says icloud and arrow down to say documents then V O left
arrow till it says disclosure button unchecked and V O space bar to check it
then you have the ability to get to the side bar table and other folders in the
browse area select the folder where you want to save your file and V O right
arrow to the save button. For some reason apple have made the choice the have
icloud as the default place to save files to .

Hi again,

Can anybody explain to my why I can't save files in TextEdit? It seems like the only
place it wants to allow me to save files in is the iCloud. Any other location I select
it dims out the "save" button.

Any thoughts are much appreciated and welcomed!

Thx,
Jeff
