I'm not sure about reverting your multiple selections; perhaps just
using the arrow keys without VO modifiers would do it.  To clarify the
question of starting a multiple non contiguous selection, pressing
VO-Command Space the first time begins the mode but also unselects the
currently highlighted item.  So pressing that same key combination
again will then select the item.  All this is spoken as you go along.
Pressing VO-arrow keys will move you along as has been discussed
already and previously selected items will remain selected.  Every
time the VO-Command-Space is pressed on an item, you will hear the
spoken number of selected items as well as the current item's
selection status.  I do not alter any of my VO cursor tracking stuff
to do any of this. either.  I like it.
