I would be inclined to think this was a bad reader then, the card
itself is probably not the issue.

Heh. Yes, there's a CF card in the reader, and I've tried all two ports
on my MBP, and don't have another computer to test the reader. The
card reads fine in my old PacMate, just not when plugged into the
reader into a USB port. Oddly, Disk Utility brings up all the DMGs I
have on my hard drive, but not the card reader.
