Lets put it this way:
nightly builds are where company test their stuff. every new little thing they 
do is implemented in nightly builds.
if it succeeds, then a lot of nightly builds become the next release. if not, 
it's taken off.
this is a short version of the technical concept but it gives you the idea.
I see no problem with trying nightly builds so long as you know they can break.
