The way I do it is as follows:
1. In my music library I select the tracks I want to add to my playlist.
2. Then I press vo+shift+m for contextual menu and choose add to playlist 
submenu.
3. Expand the submenu with right arrow key and find the name of your playlist 
and press enter to add the selected tracks.

If you want to add all tracks from an album to your playlist, choose that album 
in the music browser which will list only the tracks from the album in the 
music table. Then you can highlight them all with command+a and execute the 
vo+shift+m for contextual menu.
