Hello Harry, To put a new item in the Bookmarks bar, just do the usual Cmd-d but select Bookmarks bar in the pop up menu. As you add an item, it shunts the last one out of the Bookmarks bar. You can see which is where by going to the Bookmarks menu and looking under Bookmarks bar.
