Open Disk Utility, make sure the correct disk is selected and the first
aid tab is selected, then you can click either verify disk permissions
and or repair disk permissions. Results will be shown in the appropriate
table.

Unfortunately, Daisy Disk is not accessible.
I have already completed the recommended tasks: emptying the trash, and
deleting e-mail messages, but I have not yet moved things to an external disk
because I already perform weekly back-ups.
When moving various large folders I get an error message indicating the task
cannot be completed because not enough room is on the hard disk.
Thus, I am interested in knowing what space is being knowingly or unknowingly
used because I have a 1TB hard drive, which should not be full.
