Tracy, I can't help with automator, but there's another possible way. Have you considered the VO keyboard commander? You could add a shortcut using the left or right option key plus one other key to launch Messages. I tend to use the keyboard commander for launching applications. Even if you do use the keyboard commander, sounds like it's worth figuring out this automator problem anyway so I hope you get some responses from people who know more than I. Best, Nic
