Hi,

Accessing your iTunes Library from the internal drive will not be a problem.  
You can tell iTunes on the new external HD that its Library is located on the 
internal HD and have full access to it maintaining exactly the same database 
and Playlists.  I don't believe that iTunes has anything to do with this issue 
so that would not be anything that would cause you misinformation.
