Dear List, First of all, a confession. This is not an accessibility or VoiceOver issue. However, it does relate to the Mac and given the excellent people that contribute to this list, it was hard to pass up the opportunity to ask you all for help.
I recently decided to reorganise my mailboxes in Apple Mail on my Mac running Mountain Lion. I had a folder/mailbox on my Gmail IMAP account called Work. I wanted to move this to a different IMAP account I have (let's call this account X). • So I created a mailbox called Work on account X. • I opened the Work mailbox on my Gmail account. • I selected all the messages in the Work mailbox in my Gmail account and moved them to the Work mailbox in account X. • The Work mailbox in my Gmail account then appeared empty. • So I deleted the Work mailbox in Gmail. • However, around 5 or 10 minutes later I got a series of critical alerts saying that the messages could not be moved to the Work mailbox in account X. • By this time the Work mailbox in Gmail had disappeared. • I checked the Work mailbox in account X. • Some of the messages had move there, some had moved there but no longer had a sender or subject field, and some seem not to have moved there at all. I obviously now regret deleting the Work mailbox from Gmail so quickly, when all the messages had obviously not had time to copy over. However, there was nothing to indicate that the process of moving the messages had not worked. I suppose I didn't check the destination mailboxes carefully enough. Anyway, I've tried all I can think of to recover these messages that did not move properly and were presumably deleted along with the Work mailbox from Gmail. However, I have had no success. They seem to have disappeared irrevocably from my Mac and cyberspace. I'm hoping, however, that one of you brilliant people will be able to prove this wrong and tell me where I might be able to find these deleted messages. They are not in my Mac's Trash, or the trash folder/mailbox in Mail. Nor are they in the deleted messages folder on the Gmail server/site. I've tried to find some other trash folder in Mail where they could be but could not find anything like this. I do have a back up duplicate of my Mac from several days ago, but I'm not sure whether this would be of any use given all my mail uses IMAP. Any help would be much appreciated.
