Alex,

I'm wondering if you were thinking of the VO-shift-j command.  If you're typing 
and VO makes the popping bubble sort of sound and says something about some 
number of suggested corrections, then you can press VO-shift-j to pop over to 
the bubble.  Use the VO-up and VO-down keys to move through the suggested 
corrections then press return to accept whichever one you like.  VO will 
announce the suggested correction, wait a second or so then spell it out for 
you so you can be sure of your choice.  Just press Escape to get out of the 
bubble.
