You might want to look at the Refit boot manager. Using this, I am able to 
simply press the power button without holding down anything, then press m for 
mac or w for windows a second after I hear the startup chime. I had sighted 
help installing this, and it was over a year ago so I don't remember the exact 
procedure, but google should be able to tell you more than you need to know.
